Constructed in an appealing French Norman design in the early 1900s, the historic Union Depot features tall, conical roofs, and circular viewpoint nooks. Since ending its service as a railroad hub, the station has been converted into a regional cultural center, housing many museums and performing arts groups. Museums at the depot include Duluth Children's Museum, Duluth Art Institute, Lake Superior Railroad Museum, St. Louis County Historical Society and Veterans' Memorial Hall while other groups and attractions in the depot are Duluth Arrowhead Choral, Duluth Playhouse, Minnesota Ballet and the North Shore Scenic Railroad. On the National Register of Historic Places, the depot is situated along the downtown waterfront, near Hilltop Park.
